[USG ANNOUNCEMENT] Implementing Guidelines for the Special Term, AY 2014-2015 (via OUR) 1. The Special Term will be part of AY 2014-2015. It will consist of eleven (11) weeks. It aims to minimize the impact of the academic calendar shift to graduating students. The Special Term will be from 04 May to 23 July 2015. 2. Graduating students may be allowed to enroll a maximum of 21 academic units subject to the approval of the Department Chair. Non-graduating students can enroll up to a maximum of 18 units. For purposes of the Special Term, a graduating student is defined as a student who has 21 academic units or less remaining by the end of Term 3, AY 2014-2015. 3. Undergraduate and graduate students can petition courses they plan to take during the Special Term. The Office of the University Registrar and the Information and Technology Services Office will prepare the mechanism for the course petition process, scheduled on 15 January to 07 February 2015. 4. Courses petitioned by graduating students are required to be serviced by Academic Departments if the minimum class size is met. Non-graduating students may be accommodated to classes petitioned by graduating students if class size will allow. Courses petitioned by non-graduating undergraduate and graduate students are subject to the approval of the Academic Departments. 5. Classes shall be conducted in the campus where the petition originated. However, for courses that are petitioned in both campuses (Taft and STC), the class shall be held in the Taft campus. Lingap scholars of STC campus can enroll in the Taft campus during the Special Term. 6. The pertinent provisions of the DLSU Student Handbook, Section 4.18, “non-continuation of academic studies at the University”, will be applicable during the Special Term. Furthermore, the following specific policies will apply: 6.1. Since the Special Term will be part of AY2014-2015, students who have accumulated 15 units of failure (within the academic year) at the end of the Special Term will be rendered ineligible. For freshmen, 18 accumulated units of failure will be the condition for ineligibility. 6.2. If a student enters the University on the 2nd term of AY2014-15 and enrolls for the Special Term, it will be considered the third trimester of his/her stay in the University. Thus, if his/her cumulative GPA is less than 1.000 s/he may not be allowed to re-enroll in the succeeding trimester. 7. The class schedule during the Special Term will be as follows: Monday and Wednesday; Tuesday and Thursday 0800 – 1000 1015 – 1215 1230 – 1430 1445 – 1645 1700 – 1900 1915 – 2115 8. Graduate classes composed of all full-time students may meet once a week on a weekday with the following schedule: 1700-2115 (with 15 minute break) 9.
