Uduaghan Backs Nat ID Card Project BY FIDELIS EGUGBO DELTA State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has thrown his support behind the on-going registration for the National Identity cards, saying Deltans will be mobilised to participate actively in the exercise. The governor, who registered yesterday at Government House, Asaba, alongside his wife, Roli Nere; his son, Toju and the wife of his Deputy, Dr. Nelly Utuama, expressed satisfaction that every required detail of individuals were contained in the registration form. “There is no doubt that this exercise is challenging as people had doubt if it would succeed but, with these details and from what I have seen of the exercise, it will be a success”, the governor said, assuring, “we will give you all the support at the state and the local government levels”. He reiterated, “we will mobilise our people for this exercise to succeed in Delta State”. Dr. Uduaghan, who was beaming with satisfaction while speaking as he watched his wife being registered, was accompanied to the registration centre by his aides, including the Commissioner for Information, Barr. Chike Ogeah. The Director General/ Chief Executive Officer, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Mr. Chris Onyemenam, who personally supervised the registration of the governor, assured that there cannot be duplication as there is tracking devices on the card which will be issued. Highpoint of the exercise which also included taking of the governor’s height was the presentation of transaction and confirmation slips to Dr Uduaghan. Meanwhile, Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has charged workers in the state to have positive attitude to work for effective service delivery. Specifically, he said that proper work ethos of commitment and diligence was necessary to attain the desired result from the government huge funding to upgrade the facilities at the state’s broadcasting outfits to meet the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission‘s (NBC) 2015 digitalisation deadline. The governor who stated this when he visited Delta Broadcasting Service, Asaba Thursday[10-07-14] to inspect the on-going digitalisation work at the station said that “ the ability for an establishment to be productive depends largely on the attitude of its workers to the job and the use of its equipment”. He explained that government could buy the most sophisticated equipment for an establishment but if the workers do not have positive attitude to work and handling of the equipment as their own, there was no way the organization would provide effective service delivery. Dr. Uduaghan assured that the state would meet the NBC 2015 deadline for the digitalisation of all broadcasting stations in the country, disclosing that the digitalisation of the state broadcasting stations in Asaba and Warri would be completed soon. According to him, “the state government has embarked on the total overhaul of its broadcasting stations to meet the 2015 NBC deadline; we need to be more modern that is why we are doing a total overhaul of the system.” He said that the process of training and retraining of staff in the station was on going to enable them make effective use of the modern equipment as well as provide effective service delivery. According to him “There is a media consultant Mr. Tony Iredia that is working with the station to train staff and help build up the capacity of the staff and station.”
