Unfortunately, every year at this time we see the same wildly inaccurate email titled Before you donate that knocks United Way Worldwide (among other charities.) Heres the truth: United Way of Cascade County was given a 4 star rating by Charity Navigator -- the highest rating possible by the most highly regarded charity review organization. For every dollar raised here, only one penny goes to United Way Worldwide. Furthermore, according to Snopes that email has been circulating since 2005 and the charities whose president are criticized for having high salaries have lower administrative rates than those wrongly listed as having presidents that take no salaries. To see that article: snopes/politics/business/charities.asp We are very proud of our accomplishments, including funding 26 local nonprofit programs; partnering with the school district to cut the number of high school drop outs in half (that means 101 more students graduated high school last year); giving 12,946 school supplies to low-income and foster children; providing 4,220 meals to seniors daily; and coordinated 549 volunteers who gave 4,894 hours to advancing education, financial stability and health in our community. Last year our campaign increased by an astonishing 10 percent. I am even more pleased to say that the number of people we helped through our grants increased by 11 percent. We helped 22,582 people in Cascade County last year and everyone is touched by our community impact work through initiatives like Graduation Matters.
