Upcoming luxury hotel for Farrer Park Source: Straits Times | Money A NEW high-end hotel is poised to transform Farrer Park later this year. The upcoming five-star One Farrer Hotel and Spa development of 250 rooms is expected to open in stages from the end of next month. It is part of the $800 million Connexion mixed-use complex being built on top of the Farrer Park MRT station. The hotel development is helmed by Dr Richard Helfer, a hospitality industry veteran and former chairman of Raffles Hotel. Dr Helfer said in a recent statement that Farrer Park is one of the remaining areas in Singapore where there is demand for more hotel space. The hotel scene has grown more competitive and faster- paced, with the overall market moving towards less cookie-cutter products, he added. Higher business costs and a limited supply of manpower have raised the barrier to entry, as well as lowered operating margins, making innovation all the more important, said Dr Helfer. The One Farrer hotel will consist of three different types of accommodation - hotel rooms, villas and serviced apartments. It will also provide food and beverage outlets focused on health and nutrition. The hotel will be managed by Mr Gilbert Madhavan, who is vice-president of hotel operations at The Farrer Park Company, which is developing the Connexion mixed-use complex. The complex, which will include a private hospital, was initially supposed to open in 2010 but was delayed due to construction and internal disputes among the firms shareholders. The Farrer Park Company was formerly known as Singapore HealthPartners.
