Update Ashley So before I get to the update. I want to tell a few of my favorite Ashley Stories. Lori and I work during the day. When Ashley and her brother were off from school for the summer. Some days I would come home from work to a completely clean house. Dishes washed and put away. Kitchen spotless. Floors swept and mopped. Living room clean, Dining room. Everything. I would ask her. “Ashley, why did you do all that?” She would say. “I was bored”. Needless to say. I made sure she was bored more often. For years she had begged me to let her mow the lawn using the riding mower. Last year, when I thought she was tall enough to reach the pedals. I let her. I haven’t mowed the lawn since. Hey. More time to ride my bike for me. There isn’t anything that doesn’t interest her in some way. She has wanted to try every sport. She was a Cheerleader for a few years. Played basketball for a few. Chorus, Tried musical instruments. Did track for a year. The only reason she hasn’t done more is because I can’t keep up with her. The first time we took her rock wall climbing. She climbed right to the top, Rang the bell. Back down. No problem. Need bigger wall. At the lake a couple of years ago. They had kayaks for rent. I asked her if she wanted to get the two person Kayak and go together or get her own. Of course she wanted her own. Duh! At her sixth grade Graduation. She was voted Fashion Queen. She can be a girly girl. But at the same time. She is the only girl to take a Manufacturing class in 9th grade. She is this Pretty girl in a class full of boys. She made me a bike rack to hang my bike in the garage. A flower pot hook. And she just finished a Table made out of steel that looks like I bought it at a store. I am hoping she can make a matching one next year. If I am out in the garage tinkering around or pounding nails. It isn’t long until she comes to see what I am doing. Then usually helping, if not doing it herself. She doesn’t like to be bored. Ok, So now to the Update. Lots of great stuff today. Let me list them. No ventilator. No feeding tube No chest tubes. No catheter No central line in her leg No arterial line NO FEVER NO Irregular heartbeats. And more importantly they have moved her out of intensive care. Two days ago she had everything listed above. Today. Only one IV in her arm that is giving her the antibiotics. She is eating. Sitting up. Talking. Her voice is getting stronger every day. I can tell she lost a lot of weight. We will fix that with a few steak dinners soon. Walking will be a little tough for a few days. That wont hold her back for long. She is ready to come home. They didn’t tell us when yet. But we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Watch out world. Ashley is back.
