Update on Dad (Bill Hollaway, Sr.): The purpose of Dads surgery yesterday was to remove a broken blade (from previous surgical hardware after his fall 4 years ago) that was lodged in the hipbone. When the surgeon cut him open, he discovered that since about 6 weeks ago, Dads hip had broken and HE HAS BEEN WALKING ON A BROKEN HIP. We knew he was tough as nails, but that is just plain crazy. The doc had to take out the broken blade and put in a new, (hopefully) stronger pin. After everyone else had left last evening, he had a pretty awful bleeding incident (I got to play nurse until help arrived in his room - very very scary and messy). Fortunately, he hasnt had more problems with that, but his stay is extended from what we had originally anticipated. Thank you, friends and family (and those who qualify as both) for all of your prayers and well-wishes. Despite his pain and frustration, he has managed to woo the nurses (and female doctors) with his sense of humor, serenades (constantly singing), and occasional inappropriate comments. As you might expect, his presence is known. Please continue your prayers for him and for Mom as we work to get him back into action.
