Update on Derek....Well, we thought he did well on the barium swallow but radiologist that read it said there was some aspiration into the lungs, so no liquids or food for now. They are going to insert a mini ng tube into his stomach to get some nourishment. Evidently there is some weakened muscles in his throat from having the vent in so long, so speech therapy will be here in the morning to start him on some exercises to strengthen these muscles. Hopefully in a day or two, they will be strong enough. He has had a headache off and on for last couple of days and I think it is from the morphine. Hes not yellow anymore as the jaundice has resolved itself. For some reason, he is insisting that I spend the night. I tried to talk him into me going home tonight and then come tomorrow prepared to spend the night but he is begging that I stay tonight, so here I will be....
