Update on Kootenia Kid Kooter All the pictures are of Kooter in transition 2012 Kootenia Kid is a 2 ½ year old Thoroughbred gelding destined to race. This handsome young gelding suffered from an unknown illness, which left him with neurological issues when he was 11 months old. Kootenia owner decided it would be best to humanely euthanize him due to his future in racing was over, that’s when Oakdale Equine Rescue got evolved. OER decided we would give this young thoroughbred time to heal. Kootenia Kid was very unstable, enough that he would fall at the simplest tasks, drinking from a water trough was a challenge and at one point even falling in. Now named Kooter for short, OER decided to take that extra step and called an Equine chiropractor to see if by chance an adjustment would help him, and it did! Kooter was in a small paddock for most of his first year at OER, until it was decided to see what would happen if he was turned out to pasture, It was like watching a train wreck about to happen, he was so unstable and his legs were just everywhere. OER wanted to give him a couple of days to adjust and like a miracle, he did! Next thing we new Kooter was galloping and feeling so good that he threw a buck here and there. At two years old OER was notified by Monty Roberts that they would take this very special gelding in for 30 days of training, and to our surprise he did great! Kooter did all that was asked of him, he came back to OER 30 days later knowing all his ground work. Watching him in a round pen was truly amazing! Changing direction and to watch him Join Up, Wow! Kootenia Kid still shows some signs of neurological issues, but has since been adopted to a trainer and is now living life running. Kooter has truly amazed us! OER was contacted by Kooter’s new owner a few months back to inform us that she was kicked by another horse that left her severely hurt and unable to get up. Kooter stood over her with his hoof gently on her leg as if he was holding it in place. Kooter stood like that until her husband got to her approximately 8 minutes later. Kooter’s new owner is doing great but still in the process of recovery. We are so very proud to say that Kooter is now doing beginner barrels and gymkhana. It only shows that a little love goes a long way! Jeannine 2013 Kooters adoption add.... Hi my name is Kootenia Kid! Shucks, just call me Kooter. I came into OER because they couldn’t resist my be-yoo-tiful eyes. I gave them a wink or two and they buckled, and I fell head over hooves for them, too. Let me give you a description of what I look like: I am two years old and 15.2 hands tall and still growin’, plus I wear a snazzy chestnut coat and have a stripe down my nose and have two rear socks pulled straight up to my knees! That’s the way they like it in the service, you know. My daddy was registered! I come from BIG MONEY ! I do! I am Thoroughbred! Everyone tells me I have the goofiest personality, but guess what…. IT GETS THE GURLS!!!!! Yes it does. I’ll give you a little secret…I think I got bit by a skeeter. Some west nile skeeter at that! But all is good now ‘cause OER gave me a chance and I can run run, run like the wind!!!! I think I might be able to hold a rider soon, YUP!! I think I might just do that. OH OH and I love kids, they’re so CE-UTE! Those little rascals will come up and I will nuzzle up to ‘em, I’m just a he-uge cuddle bug. All the folks tell me I’m not ready to move on, but I am! I tell y’all I am!! I don’t really need to be ridden ‘cause I make a great pasture pal…. But I can runnnnnn!!!! Run, run, run. So all you gurls out there..e get me!!!!! 2015 Kooter is now 4 years old and still amazing! Still goofy! and much bigger standing over 17 hands high. Thank you Tereh! for adoptiong Kooter and giving him a chance! Oh and by the way Kooters name was changed to Chance which seems to fit him perfectly:)
