Update on Lillian. Shes is doing great. Her feeding tube was taken out Christmas morning, she is now eating completely on her own and doing excellent at it. Her doctors and nurses are amazed at how well she is doing. Babies that have been on ECMO have a very difficult time with feeding, it can sometimes take as long as two months for them to be able to eat on their own, and many of them are never able to breastfeed at all. I guess Lillian never got that memo, she hasnt had any problems at all with a bottle. Stacy tried breastfeeding her for the first time today, and Lillian ate 13 millileters more than what she gets from a bottle. Thats truly amazing for the first time she ever tried! Everything Lillian has been doing is blowing her doctors minds. Today she is being moved into her own room, where stacy and I will able to stay with her. She will still have a nurse that checks on her periodically, but all of her care will be done by us. She is still on methadone, but it is a very small dose. They will wean her off it completely tomorrow, and then monitor her a few days to insure she isnt withdrawing. Monday or Tuesday the throat doctors will check her to see how her tracheal rings are. These are the rings in her throat from the artery being wrapped around. She will need a surgery to correct it at some point, most likely when she gets the heart surgery. The doctor said that she isnt showing any symptoms at all right now though, so its possible they arent as bad as they originally thought. If everything goes well, she may be able to go home sometime in the near future. She is our little miracle baby! Thank you so much for all of your prayers! They have worked wonders. We hope everyone had a great Christmas!
