Update on my Mom: Carolyn Griffin. Mom continues to improve bit by bit and was able to cheerfully greet my father and sister by name this morning. The neurology team has eliminated all causes except for some type of seizure. Also irregularities in an EEG are somewhat suggestive of a brainstorm (seizure). They expect her to continue to improve, but much is likely to remain lost. Mom was already having more problems encoding short term memories to long term. My mom has always had a lot of charisma, and I hope that is not lost. They are not going to treat her with anti-seizure medication because they are concerned about the side effects which are more dangerous in older folks, and because they believe she will not have another one (of these devastating episodes). They will treat if there is another episode. I feel uncertain about all of this, as it seems like the physicians are really just guessing. She has been moved to a Barnes Rehab Hospital. Their treatment goal is to have her be able to get up and get to the bathroom and back without assistance, so that she would be able to be alone for short periods. Her stay in the Rehab hospital may be a couple of days up to about two weeks. I am also not sure how much rehab will help, given her memory problems. Still it is positive. I believe she will have a happy life, mostly, and that is a lot.
