Updated Health Advisory for Olives Sold by Ocean State Job Lot Stores: This advisory has now been updated to warn consumers not to eat any Bel Frantoio brand olives sold at any Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL) stores. The health advisory from the Rhode Island Department of Health that was originally issued to advise consumers not to eat Calcidica Sweet (Bel Frantoio brand) olives sold at any Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL) stores. The advisory was issued when Rhode Island Department of Health staff found that the product was not refrigerated as required to prevent production of Clostridium botulinum toxin. No illnesses have been associated with this recalled product to date. Ingestion of botulinum toxin from improperly processed/stored foods can result in serious illness or death. Consumers of the product who experience symptoms should be advised to seek prompt medical care. OSJL will give a refund to anyone who returns any olives with that brand name.
