Updated article in todays Isle of Thanet Gazette: A MARGATE campaigner opposed to the building of an 82,000 square ft Tesco on the sea front has been given the go-ahead to take her legal challenge over the grant of planning permission to Londons Court of Appeal. A single appeal court judge ruled on Wednesday that Reading Rooms guest house owner Louise Oldfield, has an arguable case in her claim that the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles, wrongly failed to consider the cumulative impact of the proposed scheme at the Arlington House tower block and surrounding properties in Arlington Square, together with the planned revival of the Dreamland amusement park, when he gave it approval in June 2013. Lord Justice Jackson said that it was claimed that the Secretary of State fell into error in failing to have regard to the cumulative effect of the two developments, and wrongly concluded that there would be no significant environmental impacts. He said: I can see that these submissions are properly arguable and raise matters for full consideration by the Court of Appeal. thanetgazette.co.uk/Business-woman-wins-right-appeal-Arlington-Tesco/story-21317895-detail/story.html
