Ups and downs. Up: Journey Rose just had this weeks - TopicsExpress

Ups and downs. Up: Journey Rose just had this weeks retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) exam. Praising God! Not only has the retinopathy not escalated (which weve been told to expect), but shes actually showing improvement! Surprising to docs!! Another miracle, because its very, very common (expected in all) for premature babies to have severe ROP and need meds and/or eye surgery. And all that much more common for micro-preemies like Journey. But shes still at a level 1 of 5. Maybe a barely stage 2. But improvement. No progression of ROP. Her eyes sure are precious to watch. Praying she continues to have strong vision! Down: Our sweet girl may need IGIV - immune support since shes immune compromised - immunoglobulins by IV. Not all premature babies need this but in her case, theyre considering giving her IGIV tomorrow and the following day. Risks and benefits, as always. Wed love todays and tomorrows blood cell test results to come back strong, to show shes creating a strong, healthy amount of B cells. Up: Theyre thrilled at the big girls progress with feedings (nursing / bottle). She has to be eating 100% bottle/breast (no NG tube) before shes discharged. Shes at 65%. Down: Shes fallen off the bottom of the preemie growth chart in terms of weight and growth... So theyre fortifying my milk again, as of today, with a different product from before. She needs to gain more weight, not just to get bigger, but because weight gain affects her entire body - physiological and neuro development, lungs and brain health, etc. She needs to grow grow grow. Praying the formula gives our baby girl what she needs and nothing more. Up: The pumpkin did gain weight yesterday, thankfully, and is now 4 lb 13 oz. Almost 5 pounds! Up: They weaned her breathing settings again today and shes responding well. The hope is that she wont need oxygen support when we leave, although its not uncommon at all for premature preciouses like our Rosie. Up: Todays the big girls last day on antibiotics. Please pray against any further infections. Ive been able to hold my warrior girl a bit today. She does seem a little pale to me, just today, though she shows no signs of anything clinically being off. I may be paranoid. But theyre checking her hematocrits tomorrow with her other labs. Feel like Im forgetting something major in this update... Just want to bring her home. Thanks so much for your prayers.
