July, 08:32 / Photo: Evo Racing Team Tremendous speed, high engine power and intense spirit of competition – all this awaits visitors and inhabitants of Ventspils on August 3–4 at the Ventspils Aerodrome. The fast race track is going to be built specially for this event, giving spectators excellent viewing circuits. Attendees will be able to have a closer look at their favorite cars, take photos and get autographs from the riders in the race park. Fierce competition in the Unlimited class of the championship is quite to be expected, for the penultimate racing stage is likely to determine the leader of overall rankings. It should be noted that the power of participating cars goes up to 1500 hp, thus taking spectators breath away during the runs. Organizers explain that the spectator area will be at a safe distance away from the race course, at the same time ensuring that everybody gets a great view of the entire track. It is already clear that the event will bring to Ventspils an unprecedented number of drag racing cars and competitors from Lithuania and Estonia. Visitors and residents of Ventspils are welcome to get acquainted with the racers and cars on August 3 from 5.00 pm during the qualifying runs or on August 4 from 12.00 during the racing team parade and the tense finals. The host for the championship, Evo Racing Team with Jolanta Jermacāne and Ieva Čerņajeva as heads of the organizing team, believes that this is a unique opportunity for Ventspils to campaign for regular racing events in the city, showing that it can offer a Baltic-level race course and perfectly deal with foreign guests. The future plans for including the Ventspils Aerodrome race course in the regular Drag Racing Championships event calendar are currently under discussion. Organizing a high-level competition in such a short time is not an easy task and it would not be possible without the support from Ventspils City Council. In Ventspils, racers are going to compete for a special prize fund provided by the general sponsor Bridgestone, as well as for impressive prizes from Stokker and Valvoline. TALLINK, in its turn, will award drag racers sympathy prizes (cruises to Stockholm). The price for spectator tickets (on sale at the venue) to the Round 5 of the Ventspils Bridgestone Adrenaline Drag Racing Championship is LVL 3.00 (single-day) and LVL 5.00 (two-day); LVL 2.00 (people with disabilities, presenting a certificate, and children aged 7 to 14 years); free admission for kids under 6. Latvian Drag Racing Championship & Cup The first legal sanctioned drag racing competition in Latvia took place in 2005. Drag racing has rapidly increased in popularity in our country in recent years. Race attendance ranges from 3,000 to 7,000 spectators and 40 to 90 racers. In 2013, championships will take place in the PRO A, PRO B, Unlimited and Pro Street classes, plus there will be cup events in the Street Modified, Street and Handicap classes.
