VISIT! Happy #Thursday! Today, lets talk about some of the cool experiences that I had while in #Phuket. It was such a beautiful place, but be prepared to wait a little as traffic is not only heavy but slow as well. I detail that in my video for today - https://youtube/watch?v=_fSZ_k9_3Ng&list=PLrq_L2nXdOTqPaa4KN8lw8JLvIeLLmNyo&index=1 I did take some time to walk and travel around the area as I stopped by restaurants and shops. You will notice there are many open markets where you can drop in for food. Its easily accessible from the streets. You will also notice a LOT of pharmacies. Its almost as if every other store is labeled as a pharmacy. Im not sure what the differences are among the various ones, but just be aware if you are stopping by. I did stop by a cart where the locals were selling fresh fruit. The pineapple was so good! I made sure to enjoy them after I returned back to the resort with my case of bottled water - which I just purchased while walking down the street. I visited Tiger Muay Thai & MMA Training Camp, Phuket, Thailand Wednesday evening that week. It took about 45 minutes to get there from Patong Beach to Chalong because of the indirect roads and extremely heavy traffic. I enjoyed my single session there, though I admit that I wasnt quite on top of it at the beginning because I wasnt used to their instruction style. However, the instructors are passionate about their work, and those who are training there are dedicated to the sport of Muay Thai (Thai boxing). Its nothing like sweating it out in heat and humidity for two and a half hours. One guy I met was from the United Kingdom, and he was spending a month out there training in Thai boxing. Many famous fighters, including MMA fighters, train here for extended periods of time. I certainly had a good time. I also had a chance to get some one-on-one training in Thai boxing at the Kalima Resort and Spa in Patong Beach. The trainer there was so passionate and excited about sharing his knowledge in the sport. You cant walk away from the training and not realize the intensity and the respect that is required in this sport. You give your best, and you expect to get the best in the process. I also had a chance to get a hot oil massage at the resort. I never had a massage before, so that was an experience in and of itself, but the masseuse was a complete professional, and I definitely felt great after the session. One of the things you have to remember is that the Buddhist cultural influence is dominant in Thailand. Therefore, your head is considered the cleanest place of the body while the feet are considered the dirtiest. You might notice when Thai boxers enter the ring that they jump over the highest rope rather than climb through the ropes like the western boxers. That cultural influence is the reason why. When you go to get a Thai massage, they will take great care in cleaning your feet first before getting the session started. If you get a chance to go to Thailand and dont get too freaked out by massages, you want to give it a try! Coming up Friday, I want to share with you about the heart of my time away - the personal and spiritual retreat. This was the ultimate reason why I took the time off, so I want to share with you my advice on how to make your time away the best it can be if youre looking for a recharge while away. Hope you have a terrific Thursday wherever you are!
