Vampire Diaries Season 5: Ian Somerhalder Says “It’s Cute” to See Damon Happy Ian Somerhalder Talks to TV Guide About Season 5 Damon If one character has changed leaps and bounds since the beginning of The Vampire Diaries, it’s Damon Salvatore. Ian Somerhalder’s on-screen bad boy vamp has lightened up a bit from his angry Season 1 days, and beginning in Season 5, he’s finally gotten the girl of his dreams. But that doesn’t mean things are smooth sailing. It is, after all, TVD. “It’s interesting to see Damon Salvatore happy,” Ian told TV Guide of Delena’s relationship. “It’s cute — they’re really cute together.” But unfortunately for Damon, his epic love Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) is headed off to Whitmore College. (We hear she’s there “for the boys,” but we’ll just pretend she’s there to learn.) “You don’t send your girl off to college, who really needs a break from her hometown, and tell her, ‘I need you back here,’” Ian said. “No, you say, ‘Go, as much as I want you here.’” And while his girl is off at college ragers, Damon is stuck babysitting Elena’s little bro, Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R. McQueen). “It’s a little hard for Damon to take Jeremy under his wing now because he’s so huge. He’s like muscle man. He has to take Jeremy under his wing. It’s his love’s little brother.” And all the while, Damon is left dealing with his own brother’s doppelganger. “Damon is sort of building two different relationships with the same guy, sort of like Katherine and Elena. Silas is a force to be reckoned with, and he looks like his brother, but Paul is having a good time playing Silas because Silas doesn’t give a s—t. He’s like Damon in Season 1.” No matter what, this season is going to be epic for Damon and his whole brother-as-a-doppelganger situation. “It’s this meeting of these two super duper alpha guys, except one is 2,000 years old and one is 170 years old.” We’re all about it! Are you excited to see how Damon evolves in Season 5? What about Delena? Watch the video below, then hit the comments with your thoughts!
