Very interesting essay by Aaron David Miller, vice president for new initiatives and a distinguished scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. *wilsoncenter.org/* ...A recent Pew survey on Americas place in the world stunningly shows that 52 percent of those polled believe the U.S. should mind its own business internationally. Only 38 percent disagree -- the most out-of-whack imbalance in the almost 50-year history of Pew asking the question.... ...If you combine the failed wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with the nations domestic woes, you can begin to see how retrenchment in our foreign policy may indeed be different than previous cycles.... The real problem, from the perspective of Americas place in the world, is that conventional applications of U.S. military and diplomatic power are no longer well matched and as functional as they used to be, when it comes to fixing the problems that ail humanity.
