Via Jody Sabral: Really sad news. Im still in shock about this. I didnt know her personally, but she had worked for the channel since its inception in 2007, during the years that I contributed. As the former Press TV correspondent in Turkey, I know that this has sent shockwaves throughout the media community Im close to there. It is difficult to know the truth, but it reminds us all of the perils journalists take to report the story. The media environment in Turkey is oppressive and fraught with danger and I would urge anyone who goes to work there to consult locals journalists and get themselves properly briefed on the local politics. Turkey is often viewed as a somewhat more liberal country when compared to other Middle Eastern ones, or that holiday destination, but we only have to recall the political assassination of Hrant Dink to know that it is a dangerous place for anyone who goes against the official narrative
