[Video Review] B.A.P Takes it Slow and Walks in Place in ‘Coffee The moment we heard the melody in the 51-second teaser video, we knew this was going to be something good, and we weren’t wrong. Taking it slow in this fast-paced world, B.A.P sipped a cup of bittersweet coffee in its newest music video Coffee Shop, released on June 28. As the first of three songs to come, Coffee Shop begins with a simple, but elegant piano sound by renowned jazz pianist, Song Young Joo, which slowly fills the emptiness around until there’s just no more room. And yet, we don’t feel suffocated. Compared to B.A.P’s other songs like Warrior or One Shot, Coffee Shop seems like it’s from a completely different planet with its toned-down atmosphere that coaxes you to just sit back, relax, and block everything out. Instead of fiercely commanding or shouting, the B.A.P members choose to whisper sweet somethings into our ears, telling us about the coffee shops visited in the past with an old lover as they walk aimlessly around the beautiful cities of Los Angeles, New York, Washington D.C. and San Francisco. Not only do the soft voices of the members completely work with the jazzy piano tune, the concept of the music video seems to perfectly fit with the song itself. Intentional or not, there’s something eerily pleasing to see the B.A.P members pushing the pause button in some of the busiest cities in the US. While the world around them continues to move quickly, they’re lost, completely frozen in time, just as the lyrics of Coffee Shop say, “Everything is changing, but why I am walking in the same place, waiting for you.” At the announcement of a new album release, the group said that it decided to release three title songs instead of one because all of the tracks were impossible to ignore. If Coffee Shop is just a preview of what’s to come, well, we’re looking forward to what B.A.P has to offer next. Until then, we’ll be hitting the replay button as we allow ourselves to just melt into a big pile of goo. cr : mwave
