Voted YES on SB 587, 590, 592, & 593. Voted NO on SB 597. SB 587 would require that the medical passport of children in the foster care system include information on whether the child could be a victim of human trafficking and require a corresponding health assessment in such cases. SB 590 would create the Human Trafficking Victims Compensation Act to provide a new cause of action to make traffickers civilly liable for damages to the victim resulting from that crime. SB 592 would allow trafficking victims who are eligible for Medicaid to receive medical assistance benefits to treat injuries sustained as a result of the trafficking crime. SB 593 would require consideration within the foster care system for minors who may be human trafficking victims. SB 597 imposes new training requirements on trafficking for medical professionals. These bills will help to ensure that human trafficking victims are properly identified, which will lead to them receiving necessary services, assistance, and treatment. The training requirement for health professionals is an overbroad solution to a narrow problem. The bills passed.
