WANYAMA VICTORY UPHELD By Pauline Ikanda. Supporters of Member of Parliament for Webuye West constituency Dan Wanyama were all cheers after a Bungoma court upheld the victory of their leader. The supporters who sang praises for their leader thanked the court for upholding the MPs victory saying that Wanyama was rightfully elected. Speaking outside Bungoma court after the ruling yesterday, Wanyama praised the court’s decision to allow him lead the people of Webuye West. In her ruling judge Hellen Omondi dismissed the case saying that the election malpractices cited by the petition were not proved in court. She said the will of the people should be respected since after scrutiny of votes the respondent lead by 11,238 against 10,615 votes of the petitioner, Joash Wamang’oli. The petitioner had alleged voter bribery by Mr Wanyama but the court ruled that Wamang’oli was unable to prove the allegations. The judge ordered the IEBC to pay costs amounting to sh.2.5m which should be shared by the court and the respondent. The petitioner’s security deposit of sh. 500,000 was however refunded.
