WARNING: AVOID OR BOYCOTT GETTY IMAGES These crooks have been spying, harassing and operating a technically legal yet despicable extortion scam. They have been scouring the internet, behind firewalls of private servers even for images that are not even displayed. They then contact people demanding ridiculously high prices hundreds or a thousand dollars for common type images, the likes of which can be purchased for a few bucks. They target people in every way they can think of, such as if you get a WordPress template that has an image in it they will try to get money - fat money from you for that. They also sell an image under one program and price and then change it and try to get you on the grounds of copyright infringement for not having license under the new program and price. They also time out the license - oh, it had no limit on it when you purchased it and now it does - violation and extortion follows. I know everyone is hard up for money these days and I have experienced more than one company or agency trying to screw people and being very nasty about it so they can squeeze money out of people. Getty has even been going after people who have purchased images from other image vendor sites. Personally I think this is incredibly despicable. iStockPhoto, which I have used a good bit, I learned is owned by Getty, so I will NOT be using iStockPhoto ever again. I hope the entrepreneurs, designers and companies that use Getty refuse to stand for this. They have found a legal loophole, but even though the law lets them get away with it, we do not have to.
