WARNING: If you are arrested and have to stay in the Escambia - TopicsExpress

WARNING: If you are arrested and have to stay in the Escambia County jail for any length of time, here are a few helpful things you may want to know: 1. You have to use a bathroom that has an open door. This bathroom is on a surveillance camera. All the jail employees, as well as male and female inmates can see you using the bathroom. You are given a jump suit that has to be unsnapped and pulled down to your thighs. There is no soap. Employees will not give you soap, nor will they give you hand sanitizer. 2. You have no rights. They will lie and tell you that you do but once you are in the jail, I can assure you that you have no rights. 3. There is no clean water to drink. The employees will not give you water to drink. You are served something they call juice with your meals. I can assure you that the mixture they call juice is not juice. It is a clear liquid that is sickeningly sweet with a very strange after taste. If you want water, you have to rinse out your cup and get water out of the sink. 4. If your paper work mysteriously comes up missing or gets lost you will never see said paper work again. 5. You have the underwear and bra you came in with literally. They do not care if you start your menstrual cycle. You do not get free clothing. You have to place a request order for clothing and if you do not have money on your books, you are basically sol. 6. You cannot place collect calls to cell phones. You have to have a calling card to place phone calls and in order to do that, you have to have money on your books. 7. Getting money on your books can take more than a week after the money is actually paid by friends or family members. 8. Any personal hygiene items such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, hair brush, deodorant, tooth paste, tooth brush, pads etc. have to be purchased by inmates with money on their books. Order forms or call in orders have to be placed for these items and this can take upward of a week or more. 9. If you get sick, suck it up. You are not allowed to see a nurse without filling out a request form to do so. 10. If you end up in the infirmary or a holding cell, you can be assaulted, injured or dying and the guards could care less. I had guards look me right in the eye, knowing I was speaking to them and they would stare at me coldly and turn away.
