WARNING, WARNING, WARNING! I just had the scariest scam phone - TopicsExpress

WARNING, WARNING, WARNING! I just had the scariest scam phone call on my cell phone -- some jerk told me he was calling about an accident and that he was an off-duty paramedic. His 16 year old son had been hit on his motorcycle by someone who names me as beneficiary (without thinking I supplied my husbands name) and he had me wait while he verified that he was the driver. He went on to tell me he was in critical condition and being transported. When I asked to where he was being transported, he asked me to calm down and answer a few more questions. What kind of vehicle did my husband drive (this is where I got really stupid and told him!) he then verified that was correct. He said my husband got out of the car after hitting the boy, and got into a fight with a bystander who pulled out a gun and shot my husband in the head! (By this time Im in a total panic). Heres where the story began to break down: He went on to tell me that my husband was being held in the projects and they were near the Exxon station, and that was when the lights came back on for me! I promptly hung up on the caller and dialed my husband, who was still safely at work and thankfully answered the phone. Its been about 30 minutes and Im starting to breathe normally again, but wanted to post this so that others wouldnt get as far into this scam as I did -- Im sure the next step was to ask me for money so he could be released! I called the Sheriffs Office to report and Ive sent some info to WPTV -- but wanted all my friends to BEWARE! By the way, the call came out of Orlando....Sheriffs office says its probably a pay-as-you-go phone that isnt traceable.
