WAYNE UPDATE: (This is from Brooke) We have had a couple of rough days but today there is a sense that we have turned a corner and are moving forward. Wayne was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday and they began the process of evaluating everything. There was some unfortunate news, but we will trust the Lord for all of it and keep pressing to the other side of this trial. First, the ankle break was much worse than realized. There was only one x-ray taken in Honduras and it was very poor quality. When they took x-rays from several positions here it was discovered that the bone is actually splintered and not only should it have been immobilized for the last 2 weeks but it requires surgery. So now Wayne can no longer bear weight as we await a date for the surgery. Delaying the surgery is the patch of dead tissue wounds on the outside of the ankle that have to heal completely before they can perform the surgery. Today he began the wound care process to remove the dead tissue and allow for healing. We were told this can take anywhere from several days to several weeks! We are praying and hoping for several days!! Additionally, due to the bowel problems he was having, which is called ileus, he now has a gall bladder infection. This is the reason he cannot eat and continues to lose weight and strength. The recommendation is to remove it as soon as possible because of the danger of the infection traveling to the metal in his hip. So after consulting with the surgeon tomorrow we will make the decision on this but most likely he will be having his gall bladder removed Monday if not sooner. On the good side, he began working with a Physical Therapy team and will most likely be admitted to in-patient rehab for a time to catch him up to where he should be before sending him home. The care here is amazing!!! Although I may not be a big fan of medicine and hospitals, after what we went through in the hospital in Honduras, I want to extend blessings and shouts to all those in the medical industry here. What an awesome thing to have solid, responsible care. I can finally sleep at night knowing my husband is in good hands. Granted he was and is in the best hands of all with our God, but I hope you understand what I mean! So again, how can you pray? here are the needs in critical order! -That the wounds would heal so the ankle surgery can be done sooner than later! -That the gall bladder infection would not cause any other problems and removal would be quick and easy. -That Wayne would be able to eat and gain strength for the recovery ahead of him. -Most of all, that God would be our strength, peace and our head Physician and Surgeon throughout all of this! There is an old saying that when the going gets tough your true friends are revealed! We have been so blessed and amazed at all the people who have proven themselves friends and family. The hundreds of responses to posts and emails, the texts and calls, have lifted us up in just the right moments. Thank you and thank GOD for His faithfulness and His faithful people. Please know that we are also praying for all of you to be blessed as you bless us with the love of Christ! If you want, Wayne is taking some calls now so as the Lord leads, give him a call on his cell. May you have an amazing New Year in Jesus!!
