WE GIVE BIG OIL COMPANIES $20,000,000,000 EVERY YEAR! This Congress really makes my blood boil. The Obama team is finally poised to do something momentous about climate change. By issuing new rules to finally limit how much global warming pollution power plants can emit, the EPA is about to tackle the source of 40% of all climate change in America. And how do the knuckleheads and climate deniers in Congress respond? By proposing to end all funding to the EPA—effectively turning off the lights and locking the doors just weeks before we actually do something that matters. And to add insult to injury, theyre doing it at the same time taxpayer subsidies of Exxon and other big fossil fuel companies have increased 45%. The entire budget Congressional Republicans passed (on a party line vote) for the EPA and Department of Interior is $30,000,000,000 (billion). And that’s after they cut all the funding for stuff they don’t like, such as fighting climate change, preserving endangered species, and opposing the sale of illegal ivory from poached elephants. But what struck me about the budget bill was that the amount they want to cut out of the EPA is more than twice the $20,000,000,000 (billion) WE GIVE EVERY YEAR TO BIG OIL COMPANIES like Exxon and their friends. Thats right, giving the EPA all the money they need to fight global warming costs less than half what we give Exxon and friends.
