WE SHALL resists any attempt to muzzle out Jonathan from the 2015 presidential election - SOUTH SOUTH PDP “The South-south PDP elders, leaders and stake holders will not sacrifice and trade the office of the president God has given us at this time of our national political history for any other office or consideration. This threat was made when the South-south chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) thursday meant in Abuja to discuss the current issues affecting the country,one among the decision reached by the Elders is for President Goodluck Jonathan to seek a second term in the 2015 general election. They also passed a vote of confidence on him for the way he has been running Nigeria despite its insecurity challenges. The communiqué of the meeting read on behalf of Chief Edwin Clark by one of his aides, Chief Whiskey, said: “That the South-south PDP elders, leaders and stakeholders hereby call on President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to contest the presidential election in 2015 in the interest of not only the South-south zone, but also for the unity of the country. “You are a chosen servant of history and shall not shirk in the responsibility of pulling Nigeria out of the woods as you have dedicatedly done in the last two years.” The communiqué pledged the resolve of the PDP and South-south people to work for the retention of the presidency in 2015. It vowed that the people would resist, within the ambit of law, any attempt to muzzle out Jonathan from the 2015 presidential election. “The South-south PDP elders, leaders and stakeholders will not sacrifice and trade the office of the president God has given us at this time of our national political history for any other office or consideration. “That the South-south PDP elders, leaders and stakeholders treasure the privilege to provide leadership at the highest level by having our son as president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and shall jealously guard it against all threats and odds. “That in furtherance of the vote of confidence passed by the South-south Peoples Assembly (SSPA) on Mr. President on the 6th September, 2012 at Warri, the South-south PDP elders, leaders and stakeholders hereby passes a vote of absolute confidence on President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, not only for his concrete achievements to engender sustainable economic growth even in the face of very severe security challenges, but also for the progressive leadership he has demonstrated inhandling very topical issues capable of threatening the unity and indivisibility of the country”, the communiqué said. The communiqué lauded the president for declaring state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States and backed the suspension of Rivers State Governor, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, by the PDP. It urged the disciplinary committee, set up by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) to probe the allegations against the governor to be thorough in its assignment just as they accused Amaechi of fomenting crisis in the party because of his rumoured ambition to run for the vice-presidency in 2015. The communiqué blamed Amaechi for the intra-party dispute in Rivers State and the crisis in the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), which the South-south leaders accused him of encouraging to further his political ambition.
