WELL DONE to Dyan Summers for her letter in the latest Island news regarding Wybalenna. Im a direct descendant of the ancestors and also to Aunty Ruby, Aunty Alma and Aunty Ida. These women along with the Aboriginal Community on Flinders and abroad, worked tirelessly to fight for the rights and for the respect of our ancestors at Wybalenna until the day we were able to say that the land in which holds our history and heritage finally belongs to us! I have to say that Im very very angered by the recent goings on at Wybalenna. Firstly, the trees in the community garden at the Chapel being cut down has upset me a great deal! My Gran (Aunty Ida) worked closely with the locals and a number of Govt reps and agencies to have that garden made into a peaceful place of reflection, only to see photos of the garden that has been desecrated through the cutting down of the trees, of which I might add - the wood is being sold to profit a group who have absolutely NO RIGHT to do! To be so underhanded with little or no knowledge of the activities that the said group has planned - without the knowledge, consultation with or permission from the Flinders Island Aboriginal community! Do you people even have a clue? I mean SERIOUSLY? ??? then to see this posted on the Groups fb page today makes me sick to the stomach. SHAME ON YOU. I suggest you start working transparently with the PROPER stakeholders otherwise this will create a great deal of division within the community.
