WHERE DOES A MARRIED WOMAN BELONGS.... ?. When a woman gets married , she starts the ritual of changing her names, & advertise such changes to the world through the notary public. Should this be seen only as a logical necessity ?. If a Nigerian marries a foreign lady , that lady becomes a Nigerian by marriage, it also follows that if a man marries a lady who hails from a state other than his own,then the lady is assumed to have hailed from the husbands state, when it comes to issues of APPOINTMENT, Why was this position so difficult for the chief Justice of the Federation who is also a WOMAN (Justice ALOMA MUKTA) to understand.Recently , she refused to administer an oat of office to a lady judge, simply because the lady hailed from a state other than her husbands. This kind of deliberate misapplication of law may be holding back lots of women, who otherwise would have been occupying higher positions in the society . surprisingly, all the women activists ,the National Council of Women Societies ,all kept moot as if its a crime for a lady to get married in her own country.Recently when hon Justice Bulkachuwa of the Court of Appeal appeared before the Senate during her screening, She made it clear that she is NOT in favour of such discrimination against women in marriages. This earned her a standing ovation in the Senate. She is indeed very progressive . So where should a married woman belong,her husbands or her fathers for the purpose of APPOINTMENT ...?
