WHIRO is the lunar night we are in or are going into at this time. - TopicsExpress

WHIRO is the lunar night we are in or are going into at this time. I have found in my research that time and space are not definitive in indigenous thinking and world views, thats super important to keep at the helm when using a maramataka because currently the use of a calendar stops us from listening and its a construct created to control time. Our current calendar was created by Pope Greogry in 1582! its known as the Gregorian calendar and its main motivation was for us to celebrate Easter which is tied to the Spring Equinox. NONE of this relates to us as indigenous peoples. The spring equinox part is on small element but because we have a hoslitic and relationship based frame, one thing doesnt exist in isolation. So every time I name a lunar night, even that is not quite right, because there is no consideration yet, of the stars, the sun, the bird song, the air and temperature changes ... However, its a start, and thats how i figured out i work, I make a start, somewhere I am curious and highly interested, and go with that and let it reveal the learning to me. I may look at this post in a years time and go oh that wasnt the THING but thats apart of my journey as a learner. Wanted to write this because my post last night (thug i was tired and wanted to get something down in writing) is not the only thing, you know? its something to give some direction, but it needs to be combined with our own observations and practice. Ok, so for today/tonight - I have to actually look up at the night sky and see if today really is WHIRO and what that even means energetically to me. Its a time when energies are changing going toward waxing as energies turn from inward to growing up and out. I am going to gather in my dried plant material today and label and put them in their glass jars for storage. I have koromiko, kawakawa, poroporo, ongaonga, makomako to see if the drying process has been enough. The leafs should break and if they are bendy that are not dry enough. I picked these in the first days after the last full moon so the energy was starting to turn downward but the sap was running high and the plant had more guts in it lol. Tomorrow I will look again to check if the crescent is appearing and then pour out my vodka into tincturing jars. I plan to make a throat spray and an energy building spray. I may also tincture some kawakawa and then infuse the rest in almond oil, ready to macerate over the coming 6 weeks. Im holding a rongoa session in the Coromandel at an Earthship wananga next month so am looking forward to that. This time of TE Marama i whanake - the waxing moon - is when the moon is getting brighter and energy is pulled upward so its a great time to make and take rongoa that is about gaining and building the second half of the lunar phases the waning time is good to take things for warding off and loosing. Nga mini whanau, and please do add your korero and information, I would appreciate it xxx
