WHO SAYS AUSTRALIA IS FIRST-WORLD? 4.5hr power outage knocked out even the auxiliary power system! Chaos at T2 Sydney Airport. Luckily, I was crossing T1 to T3. Using Changi, KLIA and Incheon as the benchmark for a frequent traveller like me, Sydney is one of the worst run airports in the world. Outdated infra, user-unfriendly layout and procedure for international arrival for domestic transit, it does not give you the required convenience for retrieval of luggage re-check-in for short transit lay-over I was flying from Wellington to Adelaide via Sydney this morning, and went through the ordeal, tired as I had to wake up at 330am to catch the flight. Traveling on Biz Class, it even took me almost 1hr to walk from arrival gate to Immigration, retrieval of checked in luggage yet to reach final domestic destination, Customs clearance (and I was exempted from x-Ray scanning), re-checkin of checked-in luggage, hop on to T1-to--T3 bus transfer. Must thank my travel agent for putting me on Qantas for the HZ-OZ sector, which uses T3 for its domestic flights. Passengers on JetStar, Virgin and Tiger flights which operate on T2 are not so lucky. Imagine the delayed and cancelled flights - and spillover to other airports - due to the 4.5hr power outage that even knocked out the standby generator. During holiday season like this!
