WISDOM 4 WINNING 03/04/2014 HEAD-ON COLLISION Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear. - Mark Twain I was sitting down last night with some great friends minds; some of the best you will be privileged to meet in a lifetime. I heard how each one was rejected; by parents and family. One was told by his father while he was less than 5 years old, Im not your father, ask your mother who your father is. Another was always chided by his folks how he was Esau. Yet another never got close to a microphone because her brother told her, you sing like a frog. Rejection in itself is a bad experience to grapple with. It can make one grow up to mediocrity - as a child? Terrible dont describe it, especially coming from parents. As I listened to these amazing people recount their experiences I realized that, the most anointed is the most afflicted. The devil doesnt care how young one is; hell try to destroy your self esteem at all cost by exposing you to rejection. Classical writer, Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote for hours upstairs in the family home, venturing out only to walk the streets at night. When his first short-story collection, Seven Tales of My Native Land, was rejected, he is said to have burned the manuscript. Talk of overkill. Take the richest writer of all time, J.K. Rowling, whose Harry Porter manuscript was rejected by all of the 12 publishing houses the work was submitted to. Thank God, she didn’t choose Hawthorne’s method of handling his rejection, (Even though I dont support her writing about witchcraft or wizardry) but I believe she taught well how to handle rejection. How best to handle rejection you ask? Read these steps: 1. Rejection is just a sign that you’re one step closer to achieving your goal. Your attitude to rejection can also determine your likelihood of success. 2. Recognize that rejection is inevitable in today’s world. We must be courageous in the face of dejection and trials. 3. Be gentle with yourself when you get a rejection. Don’t overkill. You do not, out of anger, kill an ant with a sledge hammer. Beloved, I dont know what you were told you couldnt do as a child that stopped you from pursuing your dreams, affected your personality, or made you look down on your abilities. Know this today, that youre a wonder to your generation. Get up today and take the bull by the horns - nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. When you dare to face the things that scare you, you open the door to freedom. The devil is a LIAR! WISDOM NUGGET: Phil 6:8 “Be anxious (worried) for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” Let us pray: Father I receive boldness against my rejection and fear today, in the light of your word in Jesus name.
