WRITTEN ON JULY 13, 2014... “NAKAILA KA NAKO?” Many, many years ago, nagpa-interview ko sa US Embassy kay gusto ko nga moadto sa Maryland to attend a prayer camp. Wearing my royal blue long-sleeved blouse, black pants, high heels sandals & my matching pearl earrings (with my fully made-up face…of corz, ha3x!), I was very confident nga makapasar jud ko. Apan, sa tumang kakurat nako, the consul denied my entry to the USA ! “I don’t think you can afford your stay there,” gisirado ko pag-prangka niya. I insisted, “But Sir, I will only stay there for two weeks.” Pero wa jud epek ang akong pag-insistir. Silently, I muttered, “Hmmpph! Wala koy plano mag-TNT didto oi. What does he know of me?? Wala tawon koy plano mopuyo ug America. Pinoy yata ako.” My sour grapes. Laughters!! If you’re a student, nakasulay na ka nga dili motuo imong teachers nga ikaw gahimo sa imong assignment? Are you a board examinee nga gi-hold imong exam result tungod sa discrepancy sa imong name? Or gibutang-butangan ka? Abi nimo BFF, can relate jud ko sa susamang situations. In times like these, we’re asked, “Kinsay imong backer & forwarder? Naa kay kaila?” (Gamiton pod nato ang term nga “forwarder” kay di lang seguro tig-back-up, tig-forward pod. Aprub?) We long for somebody to assure us pronto nga, “Ma-OK ra ka!” Balihon nato atong chika. Kana bang thru your facial expressions & body language mora kag gaingon, “Wa ka kaila nako?” Kahadlok ug kaulaw! Can relate much ko ani. Mao bitawng miingon kog “kahadlok ug kaulaw” kay kadaghan nako na-check ani. Kinsa diay atong checker? (Dili checker sa test papers ug attendance ha. Agik-ik!!) Kadumdum na hinuon ko when I used to be assigned as class beadle to check the attendance. He snapped, “Wa ka kaila nako? Anak ko ni Mayor sa City of…” Kahadlok! Friends, I know for sure nga kabalo mo kinsa atong “Backer” & “Forwarder” (whenever kita ang naa sa helplessness) & “Checker” (whenever kita ang nanghinambog) - si Jesus, our powerful Lord & Savior! But what if He’ll ask, “Nakaila ba ka Nako sa tinuoray?” Tuod no, unsaon man nato pag-abot ana nga level? Basaha ni: “Those who know Your Name, put their trust in You, for You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.” Psalm 9:10. Ah, moduol jud diay ta ni Jesus. Isulti nato sa atong mga baba nga dawaton nato Sya sa atong hearts as our personal Lord & Savior. Kung baga, we’ll establish a personal relationship with Him. In that way, kung helpless ta, makatawag dayon ta Niya. Or, kung nagsalig ta sa atong pagka-tawo ug gi-correct na Niya, we can easily say, “Lord Jesus, kaila ka nako inside & out. Please forgive me !” P.S. Lord, surround me with Your love. Amen!) Part 7 of a series
