WRONG DECISION- It was already 12:30 A.M in the clock and he was busy in his office work which was his daily night routine. He was in his forties, still unmarried, living alone in an unknown city. He had nothing much interesting in his life than work, his passion towards the work was an inspiration for everyone. He had white complexion, few strands of white hair and deep dark circles beneath his eyes due to lack of sleep. He was busy in checking some random mails on his laptop when suddenly his phone started ringing. He threw a frustrated glance at his phone and vigorously checked it. It was flashing an unknown international number on it. He got confused and answered the call. “Hello! Ryan Malhotra speaking.” There was a palpable silence on the other side and he could sense someone’s heavy breaths over the phone and that made him comprehend that someone was on line. “Hello! Is anybody there?” he repeated and again there was no reply. He was about to disconnect the call when someones voice passed through his ears. “Ryan…it’s me, Aditi!” finally a female crackling voice echoed and it pierced something deep inside his heart. His heart started pounding profusely. He started stammering and felt weak. He felt timid and cowered. It opened some unsolved mysteries which he didn’t want to open, ever in his life. The beautiful memories started flashing before his eyes like that all happened yesterday. It was something that he could never forgive and moreover he never forgets. ----------------------------------- (15 YEARS AGO… ) It was a cold winter mid-night of December and the Delhi was engulfed with the chilly fog all around. The windows and glass panes had turned translucent due to the frost and the street lights looked smudgy. They both were lying on the bed, naked under the blanket inside an empty silent room. She was busy in scratching on his bare chest from her sharp nails. He wrapped her gorgeous naked body in his arms and cuddled lovingly. “Just one year, just one more year to our MBA and I’ll tell my parents about you.” She mumbled, words were barely escaping through her throat. He didn’t pay attention on her and was engrossed in her body. “Ryan…it’s been days when we have talked like we would talk before. Time has changed so much, hasn’t it?” she said while pushing him a little away from herself. “What? What is your problem yaar?” he asked, irritably. “Don’t you think our beautiful old time had vanished somewhere? Now we don’t have even time to talk to each other.” “Shut up…you…” he muttered and started kissing violently on her bare neck. She was lying under him like a puppet, bearing the pain of ecstasy for his pleasure just as she had been doing for past few days. Her eyes had tears of feeling the warmth of the body of the person she loved the most. His lips and tongue wandered all over her gorgeous naked body. She clawed her nails on his back, it helped her enduring the pain of pleasure. She was shouting and begging him to hurt her more. The room was filled with her wailings. After few minutes when all done, he slumbered peacefully next to her. She was still awake and watching the empty wall in silence. She smiled a little while looking at him. She wiped her remaining tears and placed a gentle kiss on his cheek. ------------------------------------- “Don’t talk to me, Ryan! It’s became your habbit of coming late.” Aditi frowned. “Delhis traffic, you see!” he teased her. “Shut up!” she crossed her hands and got her gaze off from him. “What happened yaar?” he asked, irritably. “You seriously don’t know what is happening these days, Ryan? Is that so?” “Now you’re overreacting.” He acted sullen. “Overreacting, Ryan?” her vocal chords went a little louder than normal. “You didn’t pick up my calls, you never replied to my messages either, we haven’t met for last one month, and you’re saying I’m overreacting?” she almost shouted, forgetting that they were sitting in a crowded cafeteria. All the eyes turned to them. “Please Aditi, don’t create any scene here. People are watching us.” Said Ryan, embarrassingly. “You’re still thinking about people, Ryan?” she asked, astonishingly and a drop of tear slithered down her left eye. “Listen Aditi, I was busy. I was really busy, sweetheart.” He held her hands. “You’re changed Ryan. You’re not that Ryan who would love me like anything.” She said while wiping her tears. “I love you so much, baby. It’ll never happen again, I promise.” She didn’t say a word and remain silent. “You’re looking gorgeous!” he smirked. “Buttering won’t work today.” She said, hiding her cheerful smile. “Okay baba, I’m sorry!” he said, holding his ears like a child. “Aww …” She giggled, looking at him. “Apology accepted. “Okay, so ab sorry-sorry hi khelna hai ya kuch order bhi karna hai?” he slyly winked at her. She giggled and added “Ek din main chali jaaungi, tumse bahut door aur tumhe pata bhi nahi chalega. I love you so much Ryan. I can’t live without you.” “I love you too baby. Main tumhe kahi nahi jaane dunga. I’ll never hurt my baby again.” He chuckled. ------------------------------------ The place was filled with the loud music and he emptied his third beer that night. It was a house party at his friend’s place and he was enjoying like hell. He grabbed the fourth drink while disconnecting Aditi’s fifteenth call. He didn’t care to reply to her messages even. It was her sixteenth call flashing on his phone when one of his friends dragged him on the dance floor. He was intoxicated and almost forgot about her, her beautiful caring girlfriend Aditi. For her? She cried whole night just because of him. The horrible thoughts were hovering over her mind if he was fine or not. “What is my mistake? Why is he behaving like this? Where is my love gone? Where is my Ryan gone, my Ryan, who loved me from the bottom of his heart. My Ryan, who used to care me so much? Time is changed, time is so much changed!” these horrible thoughts were the reason of her all sleepless nights. ----------------------------------- “It is enough Ryan. It’s height. I can’t take it anymore!” she shouted on him. “Stop it Aditi. I’ve already told you that I was busy for the last few days. Don’t you understand that?” “You’re too much. I didn’t expect this from you. You’re so much changed Ryan.” She said, fighting with her tears. “Stop it Aditi. I’m not supposed to answer your call every time. I’m not so free like you and I’ve some other works too.” He retorted. “It can’t work anymore, Ryan!” she was battling with her tears. “Is this a warning?” he arched his left brow. “Just look at you Ryan…just look at you. You were not like that. Your arrogance will ruin your life one day. I’m going…and will never come in your life again to disturb you.” “I don’t give a damn and I don’t need you either. Just go from my sight as soon as possible. I don’t even want to see your face.” he retorted, his anger was on the sky. “I promise I will not come…” she burst out crying, covering her face with the palm and ran from there at her best, till she reached at her room.. ------------------------------------ (1 YEAR AND 3 MONTHS LATER…) “The number you’re calling is currently switched off.” He was pissed off hearing this line. It was more than one year after the completion of their MBA. He wanted to talk to her many times whenever he saw her in college. Their eyes met many times but he never had courage to talk to her, or face her again. Maybe it was his ego problem. Now that their MBA has completed, he hasn’t seen her for three months. He was missing her, he wanted to talk to her, and he wanted to say sorry to her but every time he failed, terribly! One day he decided to meet her and apologize. He wanted to fix things up and go back in her life again. He wanted to hug her tight and wanted to tell her that how alone he was without her. Someone opened the door when he rang the doorbell. A bulky lady saw him, awkwardly. “Namaste aunty! Is Aditi there at home? I’m her college friend.” Ryan introduced himself and asked her to call Aditi. “Aditi? Beta she has got married last month and went to Canada.” She replied. His heart sank and started beating like a fire brigade alarm. He couldn’t hear anything more. He felt weak at his knees. He wanted to cry so hard but his broken heart didn’t allow him to do that. He felt numb and helpless like beggars on the street. “Beta kuch kaam tha Aditi se? Koi message dena tha?” the lady asked him again but her words had no effect on him. He started walking like a forlorn. He was walking continuously, watching the faces of couples, laughing and chit-chatting with each other. The picture of Aditi’s smiling face was flashing in front of his eyes over and over again. “Ek din main chali jaungi, tumse bohaut door aur tumhe pata bhi nahi chalega!” her words echoed in his ears over and over again. He felt like dying. He was bearing the torture silently because he knew he deserved it. His life messed up since that fateful day. --------------------------------------- (A PHONE CALL…AT PRESENT…) Ryan: “Adi…Aditi!” he stammered. Aditi: “Yes I’m Aditi, Ryan. How are you?” her voice came from the other end. He: “Where are you?” She: “Doesn’t matter! I just called you to wish you a very happy birthday!” He: “I’m…I’m sorry Aditi…I know I don’t deserve apology but…” he said and a drop of tear rolled down from his cheek. She: “Please stop it Ryan, no need of all this. Ive forgiven you and let me tell you I’m happy in my life. He loves me so much.” He: “I’m happy for you.” He felt broken into zillions of pieces. She: “What is your wife’s name?” He: “Wife? What are you talking about Aditi?” She: “Don’t tell me you’re still unmarried?” He: “How can I Aditi…how can I?” he replied while wiping his tears. She: “I can’t imagine you like this Ryan.” He: “It’s my punishment. I’ll torture myself till my last breath. It was the biggest mistake of my life and it’s my punishment.” She: “You can’t do this Ryan. You’ve to move on. Tum bilkul nahi badle, abhi bhi ziddi ho.” He: “Tumse behtar mujhe aur koi nahi jaan sakta hai, Aditi. I didn’t give you precise time that was my wrong decision. I ignored your calls was my wrong decision. I shouted on you was my wrong decision. I never tried to talk to you again, was my wrong decision, I brought my ego between our love was my wrong decision. I hurted you so much was my wrong decision. And for now, I don’t want to take any more wrong decisions.” He said and started sobbing. She: “Please stop crying. You better know I can’t see your tears. Now stop thinking that much.” He: “I love you so much Aditi, forever!” She: “I still love you and we’re not going to meet in this life, ever! Now I’ve responsibilities of my three years old son. Now I’ve to go Ryan. Wish you a great life. Bye!” He: “Wait! Your son?” She: “Yes, his name is Ryan.” She replied and disconnected the call...
