WSSC & Quinns rugby union athlete Tim completing heavy singles (137kgs) back squat in season for maintaining max strength and power/speed potential! If you are not training for strength you losing it... WSSC methods are based around developing the entire force-velocity curve of the athlete and focusing on developing maximal strength via your basic primal bi lateral (double leg) strength patterns = squat/dead! There is nothing fancy about WSSC methods, we have no secrets! Our athletes squat, dead, complete explosive work via o lifts, plyos, med ball work, max sprints and ballistic strength work, complete unit lateral (single leg work) and develop their inner unit or core to make sure there is no energy leakage throughout the entire kinetic chain (energy transfer). We understand we are not training power lifters, o lifters, body builders, sprinters or gymnasts ... We use these methods as a tool for a stimulus for adaptation and increase in performance capacity = enhance the neuromuscular profile of the athlete! = increase explosive force generating capacity of the muscle. Always remember strength is the foundation for ALL other bio motor /athletic attributes! Plain and simple strength .... Common ideals in season for most Australian athletes is minimal to no strength training, WSSC athlete lift heavy singles, doubles and triples in season, no gimmicks just hard work and progression. Two reasons why strength is vital; 1. To recruit and train your high threshold motor units (the ones that produce the highest force/power) maximal forces are needed eg heavy load training over >85% 1RM 2. Most athletic movement start at a slow or 0 movement speed, hence the importance of strength at the start of movements WSSC athletes aim for; 2 x BW lower body strength Squat Dead And 1.5 x BW upper body strength Bench press Bench pull Note; WSSC monitors fatigue in the athlete via subjective and objective markers in season to minimise fatigue and maximise adaptation! Performance is the key, we are secondary to the skill, athletes need to train to get better at their sport = remember the role of a performance coach ! Coaches tip: athlete will dip into the hole initiating their stretch reflex then drive up through their heels keeping their chest up right, cue drive up when athlete over comes load Contact WSSC for a science based approach! #wssc #changingthegame Info@woodfordsdc or PM.
