WSSC has always believed in completing; Speed (& agility) before strength & Strength before conditioning We use the saying; High velocity > slow velocity High Task complexity > low task complexity High neural load > low neural load High metabolic fatigue > low metabolic fatigue (relative to muscle tissue activated) To us we believe the athlete should ALWAYS be neurally fresh and metabolically replenished (carbohydrate stores > stored glycogen > muscle & liver) before any speed based session or power/strength session (obviously there are trade offs) this is to maximise adaptation and allow the CNS to activate and train high threshold fast twitch motor units (high force, high power, fast contractile velocity). If the athlete has some form of accumulated fatigue the quality of the session decreases, velocity/ power out put decrease and sub maximal adaptation occurs. Remember why you are training speed/velocity or strength/ power for? To increase the neuromuscular profile of the athlete and develop the athletes Force - Velocity curve (high force- high velocity). Fatigue is a terrible environment for developing anaerobic/CNS strength, power and speed.
