Want to see what hands-free CPR looks like? Check out the Johnston Fire Departments new Lucas device, now up and running, thanks to a grant from Prairie Meadows. The advantage this device has over an EMT performing manual CPR are many. Once the device is applied, constant, uninterrupted CPR is being performed. Currently, whenever a patient is moved, such as when we have to move the patient to our cot, carrying a patient up or down the stairs, and when we place the patient in our ambulance, CPR has to be stopped. This device will eliminate the need to interrupt CPR being performed. This device will also free up one of our personnel, to perform other tasks (such as administering an IV), and can reduce the number of personnel needed at the emergency scene and in the ambulance during transport, said Johnston Fire Chief Jim Krohse. Thank you, Prairie Meadows!
