Want to tell a story about an amazing man I know an old war veteran a paratrooper that risked his life at a very young age. A man that lost many of friends a man who fought for our freedom. he jumped into Normandy,the Rhine river, and many other places alongside his brothers called butchers in Baggie britches. He didnt talk much about his time in the war but when he did i always listened closely.He told me a story one time I will never forget about the time he was laid up in a fox hole concealing his position when he stumbled apon a baby fox. This man being the loving caring man he is took that fox under his wing and cared for it during his time wile trying to locate the position of the German soldiers in there area. After a few long grueling weeks of not finding the German soldiers he gets a call from the Sargent saying time to be extracted out boys. As he and his fellow brother gear up one cold night he realizes he cant take the fox with him ,that he has to release it back out in the woods. He puts the fox down and shewws it off but the fox wont leave so after many tries finally the fox takes off into the darkness. As he is walking back to his platoon alone thinking about his furry friend that he has gotten so close to he hears the cry of his fox off in the distance. he walks up the ridge line to see what the commotion was. As he walks down the ridge line he comes to a embankment that is looking over the entire German platoon they have been trying to find for weeks. As he is in shock about how close his team was to the Germans location out of the corner of his eye he sees the German soldiers standing around there campfire and tents shooting at his fox laughing as they kill it. As Im listening to this man tell his story he pauses in silence. I notice his eyes started watering up so I ask then what happened he replies I killed every last one of them. they killed my fox.this man continued his service in the army day after day month after month year after year. When This man arrived home after his tour of duty he marries his long time sweetheart. they had 4 kids together. last week they just celebrated there 70th wedding anniversary. This great man has been thro a lot in his 93 years of life worked hard his entire life very strong willed independent man has worked every day of his life for his family.I find out today that this great man got a phone call from his doctor telling him the bad news that he has cancer. So in shock and disbelief I go talk to this amazing man .I tell him Grandpah your the greatest man I know you have taught me everything that I know ,I love you with all my heart and Im not ready to let you go He laughed and said Ryan Im not going anywherelol. My grandfather Mack is the backbone of our entire family he has taught me how to be a man ,he has taught me how to be independent he has taught all of us. He has always been there for us never let us go without. So to Mack Wheelis I say I love you with all my heart thank you for everything you have done for all of us i look forward to the time we have left together. You are my hero and I salute you Sr.
