Warning: The following is a drive-by editorial by Ñöstra-Thomas Futureseer and could prove catastrophic to those wedded to the status quo. I have genuinely pondered the enigma as to exactly why poor and struggling Americans perpetually vote for leaders who have nothing but abject disdain for them. I have tried repeatedly to crack the code and while Ive come close to solving the conundrum in the end I was ultimately left unfulfilled. I was never satisfied, even with what some considered a masterpiece of creative prose and elegance, I knew I hadnt solved the equation. Understanding why poor and middle class Americans freely choose to be Conservative Republican voters who elect people who make life artificially insufferable for them and others like them was unsolvable. Not only do they do it, they do it with a kind self-righteous piety and zeal. They do this in spite of the sadistic reality they impose on themselves and are forced to endure as a result. I have been poor and felt the sting of poverty and needless shame that is associated with it. Fortunately as Appalachian American [sic] I was not alone and had plenty of company. I soon got over any self imposed guilt when I realized how rigged the system was and still is when my professors explained to me in college so long ago. I wore my views like a badge of honor knowing I was outnumbered a thousand to one as I raged against the cogs of a corrupt machine as a White Male Liberal. To many I was nothing more than a treacherous turncoat of treason. To this day I have people who loathe every word I combine into a sentence in my futile attempt to solve the puzzle that has baffled me for going on three decades and that is: How can the rich, who consistently fight for their own self-interest convince those who are struggling to consistently vote for things that have proven time immemorial to sabotage their own self interests? Why do we routinely see that Republican who are totally disabled vote for the very monsters who would yank the wheelchair right out from under them? Why would poor people like those of my old home state, who receive food stamps vote for people like Paul Ryan? Why would those barely in the middle class, with children in the Armed Forces vote for war mongering chicken-hawks.....who torture prisoners of war?! This mysterious enigma that has remained hidden all these years has gone and revealed itself all at once to me by a counter-intuitive source: EDWIN LYNGAR. Edwin was once a Bush voting, tax-cuts for the rich supporting, poor American serviceman who would crawl through broken glass on bare knees to vote for the most vile Republican he could and is now a Liberal at age 40. Straight from the Lions mouth to my ears the answers rolled out as I marveled in total awe. The riddle that he so eloquently solved for me is exactly what I suspected but could never quite articulate. He weaves together a progression of reasoning with laser-like precision and answers that riddle that has so doggedly alluded me for 30 some odd years. He is a recovering rank and file, die-hard Republican who was totally hammered on Neo-Conservative Freedumb Juice. His detailed portrayal was everything I predicted it would be, a damning indictment of Conservative Dogma and a blanket impeachment of the GOP platform. I highly recommend all of my friends who read this to share it with your Fox News viewing buddy or uncle. We all have one or a dozen. Especially to those Conservatives who are one step away from a major catastrophe if they get ill or lose a job. You know the ones, the ones who rail against Food Stamps and Welfare and Gubbmint Handouts. If you have to, chloroform them and tie them to a chair and read it to them. Bring duct tape.
