Was at the Bhopal Gas survivors dharna at Jantar Mantar yesterday. They are demanding that the Govt of India and PM answer why Dow Chemicals is able to flout Indian laws and refuse to appear when summoned by CBI? They want the curative petition filed by the govt in the Supreme Court to accept the ICMR figures for those killed and affected by the disaster - instead of the ridiculously low figures quoted now. And they want the Govt to pursue the increased compensation to all survivors from Dow Chemicals. Can Modi Sarkar pass the Bhopal Test and prove it is a strong Govt capable of defending interests of Indian citizens and ensuring that killer corporations own accountability and pay their dues and respect indian laws? Or is the Modi Sarkar going to keep dismantling Indian labour and environment laws in order to tell global corporations that they can come and Make in India with as much impunity as Union Carbide/Dow did, confident that Indian Govts can ensure that both labour and lives/deaths are cheap in India? For now, its clear that Modi Sarkar like its predecessor Manmohan Sarkar is busy doing the latter. We should all make it our business to remind the country and the world of Bhopal and the sheer helplessness feigned by Indian Govts against a U.S. Corporation that Made in India and Killed in India...Bhopal survivors arent fighting their own battle alone - they are fighting for us all, for all Indias people who seek to be safe from the plunder and murder by Indian and MNC corporate power backed by imperialism...
