Wasted ten minutes talking to a close minded TKD (very) high grade - TopicsExpress

Wasted ten minutes talking to a close minded TKD (very) high grade who didnt see the benefits of having me come to his club(s) and help broaden their experience. Having fought them quite extensivly a little broadening wouldnt be a bad thing tbh.... but no, I have to relinquish all my other heathen practices and soak up the purity that is tkd and its highly motivated system of financial advancement. What makes me think that I am able to contribute? Simple, if Im not then I get slaughtered! In this case would his clubs suffer in any way? Only by the loss of my up front monthly subscription, insurance payment, purchase of uniform, astronomical grading fees... What ever happened to the art in Martial Arts?? Back in the day, Asian masters opened the doors to everybody simply just to spread the word and expand their own particular art, if that art didnt fit with you, fine... go find one that did. No-body was afraid of what ever you may have brought to the training as long as you remained within the tradition of respect and truth. It wasnt unusual to find Shotokan and Wado Shodans training together or Kykoshinkai with Ishin Ryu, there were rivalries true enough but time on the mat would settle any questions arising. My fellow Karate-ka and I guested at many clubs all over the UK, made friends and learnt loads which is why we are well rounded and capable Martial Artists even now well into middle age. The thing we are NOT, is close minded (maybe a little judgemental but that goes with the grey hair). In summary, there are no flawed Martial Art systems imho, just some bad Martial Artists who need to realise that you can maintain your traditions, because they are the heart of your heritage, and still move with the times. In order for those traditions to thrive, the emphasis on making money and propping up egos needs to be addressed otherwise remove the word art from your titles and substitute with Business because that would be honest.
