Watch and Act - Hall Road Fire, Balmoral Village (Southern Highlands) 17/10/13 21:01 Posted: 17/10/2013 A scrub fire burning near the villages of Balmoral, Yanderra and Bargo in the Southern Highlands has now been down graded from Emergency Warning to Watch and Act. Current Situation Fire fighters are getting the upper hand on the bush fire burning in the Southern Highlands. At this point in time it appears that there has been minimal damage to properties in the area. The fire is currently burning in the Upper Nepean State Conservation Area in an easterly direction and is just east of the Cordeaux River. There will be increased smoke and fire activity tonight as firefighters undertake significant back burning operations east of the Hume Motorway and south of Picton Road. Advice If you live in Yanderra Residents are now able to return to their properties via Tylers Road. Yanderra Public School will be closed tomorrow (Friday 18 October 2013). If you live in Balmoral or Bargo Residents are now able to return to their properties. If you live in Wilton It has been confirmed that there is no fire threat to the town of Wilton. Road and Transport Closures One northbound lane of the Hume Motorway is open. Cars are now able to move under Police escort. The train line will remain closed until authorities are able to inspect it for damage. For the latest traffic information, visit livetraffic or call 132 701. If you live in the area but are away from home, it may not be safe to return to your property.
