We are a diverse group. Some of us have high ranks and titles. Some are low ranks. High ranks should not look down on the beginners nor should those without rank look down on us who are proud of rank or titles. Some of us have studied for decades, some have not. Those of us who have studied a long time should not look down on those with less time nor think that our word should necessarily carry more weight just because of our years of study. Those without rank or title should not look down on those of us who are proud of our rank and titles. Some of us have lived in or traveled to Okinawa or other Asian locations. Some of us have never traveled. Both groups may have interesting opinions. Some of us are combat veterans, police officers or have experienced combat in some other form. Some of us have managed to stay out of fights. I thank all vets (whether or not you were in combat) and all law enforcement. Those of us with combat experience should not discount the opinion of those without it. There are numerous Okinawan styles and martial arts with other origins. Each style has its own beauty and strengths. Each student probably thinks his style is the best. All styles and practitioners deserve respect. There are cultural martial arts. Those from Okiawa are supposed to be our focus here. There are martial sports. Much can be learned from sport and usually nobody dies. There are groups which tend to call themselves realistic martial arts or self defense. They also have interesting opinions. We should pay attention to our martial cousins. When we disagree we should have logical arguments. I personally am not a fan of sarcasm especially in print and among Budoka. Everything I have said here is simply my opinion.
