We are honored and grateful to have been awarded a $2,000 grant from Humanities Nebraska to begin creating the Nebraska Vinyl Archive: ... a multi-faceted project that will leverage Nebraskas cultural, intellectual and historical resources to create a searchable online archive of all the sleeves, labels, artwork, liner notes and other visual materials from vinyl albums and 7/45 rpm singles released by Nebraska-based artists. This project reaches back to archive the work of the first Nebraska recording artist, Lloyd Hunters big band effort Sensational Mood in 1931, and will continue to the present day and beyond to include our states current and future recording artists. Thats the first part of this ambitious scope, which we hope will allow us to ultimately release compilation vinyl records covering various movements and eras of Nebraska music (polka, jazz, easy listening, rock, rockabilly, surf, etc.) The project is the brainchild of Omahas Peter Cales, and will be overseen by UNL music professor Tom Larson. We hope to parter with many Nebraska people and groups to fully realize this projects potential. What do you think?
