We are sharing a story about Jamie Oliver (TV chef from England) - TopicsExpress

We are sharing a story about Jamie Oliver (TV chef from England) and his battle with McDonalds. We at Founding are in agreement with most of what this report states. However, when Oliver asked rhetorically Why would any sensible human being put meat filled with ammonia in the mouths of their children?” We object to the tone of this statement and what it implies: only insensible and horrible parents feed their children rotten meat contaminated with ammonia. Such a thing would be horrific and constitute child abuse. This is not the case. What we need to understand is that for families who are cash strapped, rushing from one place to another with crazy schedules, or live in areas where fast food is King...they trust their government to protect them from this kind of meat. They are tired, over worked and over worried. Life is day to day, pay check to pay check. They trust McDonalds would not to feed them poison. They feel society at large would not frequent a world wide fast food restaurant that was feeding them dog food washed in ammonia. This means that anyone who says to feed your child McDonalds is akin to child neglect and abuse, are at best making a big deal out of nothing. They are standing on their rich and detached soap boxes preaching at the rest of us. At worst, they are such an elitist that they look down their noses at the riff raff and what the riff raff eat and accusing them of not loving their children. One attacks them personally by accusing them of abusing their children. This only serves to have them shut their ears and eyes to news reports, books or documentaries composed by the uppity that are supposed to educate them. Again, implying that they are dumb and uneducated. This accomplishes nothing and results in much harm...driving a wedge between us...dividing us. United we stand and divided we fall. What we should be asking, is why the very people we trust to keep our food clean are not protecting us. We must keep our focus on the people responsible. Dont exaggerate... or dramatize...or insult...but bring the facts to the forefront over and over. Focus our efforts on shutting down the horrific machine that is crap food, in restaurants and in supermarkets everywhere. At the same time, work to bring the prices of local food down to a level that is both fair to the farmer and obtainable by eaters every where regardless of income.
