We are very excited to announce the offering of a Graduate Student Research Colloquium (previously titled Emerging Research Course), at the AHRD 2015 Conference in the Americas. The colloquium’s programs were substantially revised thanks to the constructive feedback received from over 90 responses to the Scholar Professional Development Survey, and the valuable input from the Board of AHRD. Highlights below are some new features in the 2015 conference course. Separate programming will be offered to master’s students and advanced doctoral students to address their distinctive needs. The master’s colloquium, focusing on promoting evidence-based practice and developing an identity as Scholar-Practitioner, will include four topics:Overview of Research Paradigm; Evaluating and Critiquing Research; Journey of HRD Scholarly Practitioners;and Research-to-Practice. It will offer an opportunity to explore the means to incorporate research into practice and to build a professional identity as a scholarly practitioner. The doctoral colloquium, focusing on preparing for scholarship and professorship, will consists of four sections: Research Symposium, Developing a Scholarly Identity, Planning for a Scholarly Career, and Scholarly Writing Studio. This colloquium will provide a venue for sharing research work, and will explore the path to establish a scholarly identity and an academic career. The colloquium will use a 1.5-day format to maximize interactions and collective learning among facilitators, students, scholars and practitioners. The class will start on Wednesday 9:00am (Feb. 18, 2015) and end at Thursday noon (Feb. 19, 2015). At the end of the conference, a Learning Reflection Session will be held by the colloquium coordinators. This session will serve as a forum for all the student participants to share their learning takeaways and conference experiences, and suggest areas for future improvement. Finally, for the first time, SIGs will participate in the design and delivery of the colloquium’s programs. The syllabus is now available on the AHRD website. If you are a student interested in registering for the colloquium, please contact your sponsoring instructor at your institution. If you are faculty interested in facilitating this colloquium, please contact the two coordinators: Dr. Jia Wang ([email protected]) and/or Dr. Tomika Greer ([email protected]). We look forward to your participation! Jia Wang and Tomika Greer Coordinators, Graduate Student Research Colloquium for 2015 AHRD Conference
