We are very happy to announce that the Ross Family Farm will be joining the market house as a regular vendor! They will be set up and ready for business this Saturday, January 10th. Some of you may know Perry and his son Caleb from seeing them at the curb market on Saturday mornings. We thought it would be appropriate to share their story with our Facebook groupies just in case you are not acquainted with them. I asked Perry if he would provide some family history for me. The following is their story. Ross Family Farm is owned and operated by the father and son team of Perry and Caleb Ross. They are direct descendants of the Ross family that has farmed in the Sunbury area for many, many generations (many of you remember the Ross Dairy store along Route 61). Perry and his wife Lydia have done many different things in over 18 years of marriage. Farming and self-sufficiency have always been a way of life for them and their five children. All of the children are involved to some extent in everything they do; two of them have already built their own businesses that are directly linked to the farm. Their son Caleb has numerous farm enterprises including goats, sheep, geese, ducks and hogs that he raises and sells. Haley has been operating the locally well-known Haley’s Handmade Soap for about four years. All but a few of her soaps are crafted with milk from Caleb’s goats. Andie hopes to one day open a bakery using all local ingredients bought from area farmers. She makes a wonderful Dutch Cornpone! The lengthy lists of things they raise on a small farm include grass-fed poultry (chicken, turkey, duck and goose) pork, lamb, eggs (both duck and chicken) and rabbit. They also produce maple and walnut syrup, grow heirloom cornmeal and have local honey and more! They are not certified organic but are strictly local and grass fed all natural. All of their animals are heritage breeds that they breed and raise. These older, rare breeds are better suited to life on pasture and a low input system. Chemicals, antibiotics and hormones aren’t used in their feeds, but are specially formulated with only the highest quality ingredients rather than the cheapest. This in turn provides better tasting, healthier, life sustaining foods. The Ross Family stands behind all of their products with pride, integrity and joy. If you are looking for quality, clean, local food, come visit them at Sunbury Market House. They would love to chat with you about their products and hope to make you one of their happy customers!
