We arrived at Cliff Head on Sunday (14th) and set up camp at a spot we had found on an earlier trip. Beautiful rock formation hill behind us to block out the southerlies, with shady trees …. beach view …..just look at the photos! We had the whole place to ourselves! Set up the shower & loo tents and the annex – in general prepared for a lovely 2 to 3 weeks stay. Paul and Peter went up to the weed bank where they caught our evening meal and breakfast of tailor! Very nice! RUDE AWAKENING PEOPLE!!!! Tuesday: along comes the rangers to tell us we could only stay for 72 hours AND we had to leave the Shire of Irwin for 28 days before we could come back and spend another 72 hours!!!! WHY DO WE PAY TAXES WHEN WE CAN’T EVEN CAMP ON THE VERY BEACHES WE PAY FOR IN OUR OWN COUNTRY????? Are we angry? YOU BET!!!!! I think I’ll do some serious letter writing when we return to civilization. White Knight to the Rescue: Enter Ian Hunter a long-time friend of Paul & Lyn to save the day. Ian owns three shacks here and invited us to move into one of them, and we could not be moved out by the rangers because it is his private property. So, when our 72 hours were up last Thursday, we decided to move on Friday (just to thumb our noses at at the Irwin Shire). Friday dawned hot …. Really quite hot … 35 deg, and we were moving, not swimming! Anyway, cut a long story short, as soon as we moved to Camp #2, the weather cooled and it was lovely! The next couple of days dawned overcast and with heavy winds, so no fishing or much swimming, really, until today. The highlight was the arrival of friends, Neville & Theresa Powell in their bus and fun was had catching up. 22/12/2014 – Beautiful day! Sunshine! Warmth! Swimming! Fishing! Walking! Just gorgeous. Paul and Neville went out in the boat and caught a lovely large dhu fish, and a smaller dhuey (I think thats how you spell it). Some points of interest: Yesterday, Neville saw a snake near the water tank just the other side of the shower room (where I was trying to have a shower – fortunately I didn’t realize the snake was there). They didn’t catch it. However it was waiting for me later in the afternoon, sunning itself just outside the kitchen door. Paul tried to kill it by bashing it with an old broom (the only thing to hand at the time) but it got away. Spied a massive wolf spider last night – about the size of my big toe. It didn’t get away – it was rather flattened by the whole experience. Had a lovely encounter with a stingray in the water – beautiful gentle creature. I just stopped still as it swam in front on me. Lovely! Then a not-so-lovely encounter with a North-West blowie which chased me through the water. Some sort of sense told me it wasn’t a nice fish so I hightailed it off to the beach. Found out later that they bite! The man with the fastest shotgun in the West, ‘Dead-Eye Paul’ shot a snake this afternoon – one shot, straight through the head! Unreal! Anyway, this is Chris from ‘Cliff Head Happy Campers’ signing out until next time when Ill post photos of Camp #2 and the dead snake, and the Bitey Blowie. Stay tuned folks.......
