We as men need to have courageous conversations about privilege, - TopicsExpress

We as men need to have courageous conversations about privilege, power and who really controls and drives what it means to be Hmong in the Hmong community and who really shapes and influences what Hmong means and dictate how Hmong culture is being held. I think that for us to be a part of the solution is for us not to shy away from the direct things that we benefit from and that we must tackle it head on. Without tackling the issue of male power and privilege head on in our community we are always going to scapegoat Hmong mens violence and abuse to mental health, to needing social status, to needing an outlet, and even to culture. All these routes are scape goats that lends nothing to the deep roots of this problem. The fact that men cannot openly have relationships with each other on a deeper level in family and community is because of patriarchy. Patriarchy affects men and boys to because as they limit our full expressions as men and boys... thank you Pheng Thao for being a courageous brother and ally
