We dont improve. That is not to say that we dont change. But our change is through grace, by faith, through the Cross (as we find and tap into it). But we dont improve. And it is wrong to work towards it. But that is the concept that we all can (and do) get. And it can keep us tied up for a lifetime, and keep us doing nothing for months of Sundays! It is not fruit bearing. We are not going to bear fruit when trying to improve ourselves. In fact, the fruit that we will bear when trying to do that, is frustration. But if we want to follow that path, then Buddha is the one that we should follow, because it is the Buddha who said that one must improve himself (that no one will do it for him). Not so in Christ. In Christ, it is actually a sin to try to improve ones self. There is no justification for self-improvement (if you get it, or when you do!!!). Think about it. That is because it is not by our efforts that we achieve. From whence cometh change then? It is by the Cross. It is a matter of coming to the end of ones self. And that happens by the cross. Think about it. Because it is a gift. New Life is a gift. Accept the gift. Die for it! Col 2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Blossom! No flower strives to blossom; so if one is striving to overcome, or become, then one is not throwing ones self upon the Cross. Grasp the Cross. Then you will blossom. That is the rule. It is His life that blossoms. He is the vine. We are the branches. We dont work up through the channels to meet Him. We go straight to the source. But it may take one a while before one dies. And you must die first. If you think about how the Cross works, when one is put on it, one doesnt die right away. So the discovery is not necessarily immediate. That is why so many take so long to discover, because some people are really tough cookies. The flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and does it so well, and so for months of Sundays, they try everything else.
